Academic Review EPPP Review 2026: Price, Guarantee, Who It Fits

Short verdict: Academic Review is the budget door into the biggest EPPP prep company. It costs $139 a month, or $599 for 6 months prepaid (Academic Review's EPPP programs page, checked October 1, 2026). You get 2,200 questions, 5 digital study volumes, and about 680 flashcards. The pass guarantee only comes with the $599 plan, and it gives you 180 more days of access, not your money back. Buy it if you want a plain, lower-cost version of the traditional model. Skip it if you are a retaker or you want practice that adapts to you.

Quick disclosure, since reviews without one are ads: I run thePsychology.ai, a competing EPPP prep tool. Every fact below comes from Academic Review's own pages, linked at the bottom, so you can check my work.

What Academic Review is

Academic Review has sold licensing exam prep for psychology and social work since 1976, per its own homepage. The EPPP product is fully online: an assessment exam, domain quizzes, practice exams, digital study volumes, and flashcards.

One thing most reviews skip: Academic Review is a sister brand of AATBS and Taylor Study Method. All three belong to Triad, which Level Education Group acquired in October 2025 (per the acquisition release on Triad's own site). So if you are weighing Academic Review against AATBS, you are picking between two price points from one company, not two independent opinions. My AATBS review covers the pricier sibling.

What Academic Review costs in 2026

Two plans, from Academic Review's EPPP programs page, checked October 1, 2026:

Academic Review planPricePass guarantee
Pay As You Prep$139 per monthNot included
6 Months Prepaid$599 one timeIncluded

Both plans list the same content: an assessment exam, domain quizzes, practice exams, 5 digital study volumes, 2,200 questions, and 680 online flashcards.

The math worth doing: six months on the monthly plan is $834, so the prepaid plan saves $235 (Academic Review's own figure) if you actually need six months. If you are done in three, monthly costs $417 and prepaid still costs $599. Pick the plan that matches your real exam date, not your hopeful one.

The pass guarantee, read carefully

"Pass Guaranteed" sounds simple. The terms page is not. To qualify, Academic Review says you must:

  1. Buy the 6-month bundle.
  2. Finish the assessment exam, every domain quiz question, and every full-length mock exam before test day.
  3. Score 75% or higher on your last mock exam.
  4. Log at least 300 hours in the online program.
  5. Sit the EPPP within 1 month of your last mock exam.
  6. Send your results and contact them within 30 days of the exam.

Do all of that and still fail, and you get 180 more days of access. Not a refund.

That 300-hour line is the one to sit with. It is about 12 hours a week for six months, inside their program specifically. Hours you spend with other materials do not count toward it. If you score 75% on their last mock and still fail, the remedy is more time in the same program that predicted you would pass.

None of that makes it a bad guarantee. It makes it a study contract with an access extension at the end. My piece on how to read any EPPP pass guarantee (ours included) walks through the same four questions for every program.

What Academic Review does well

  • Lowest entry price in the Triad family. $139 a month is far below AATBS's packages, which start at $849.
  • A clear path. Assessment first, then content, then practice, then review. If you want to be told what step comes next, it does that.
  • Content plus questions in one place. The study volumes cover the 8 EPPP domains, so you are not buying a separate textbook.
  • Monthly option. You can stop paying when you stop studying, which a fixed package does not allow.

What to know before you buy

  • One page says unlimited practice exams, another says 2. The programs page advertises "Unlimited Practice Exams." The 6-month product page lists "2 Full-Length Practice Exams" with randomized questions. Ask them which is true for your plan before you pay, because it changes your test-day rehearsal.
  • The model is coverage, not targeting. You work through everything. Whether hour 40 goes to your weakest domain or your strongest is still up to you.
  • Monthly adds up if you study slowly. At $139 a month, a timeline that slips from 4 months to 7 moves you from $556 to $973.

Who should buy Academic Review

  • You want the traditional read-then-practice model at a lower price than AATBS.
  • You will actually log 300 hours and want the guarantee as a safety net.
  • You are a first-time taker with a clear 4 to 6 month runway.

Who should not

  • You are a retaker. Another full pass through everything is usually not what a failed attempt calls for. You need to know which domains cost you points and drill those. (We built a free retake readiness exam for this.)
  • You are price-sensitive. thePsychology.ai is $60 a month or $349 a year, with 7 days free and no card on file (our pricing page, checked October 1, 2026). Six months with us costs $360 monthly, or $349 for a full year.
  • You want practice that adapts. A fixed bank does not learn where you are weak.

The bottom line

Academic Review is the plain-label version of the company that also sells AATBS: same family, same study philosophy, smaller price tag. If you want that philosophy, it is the cheaper way in. Just read the guarantee as a contract, not a promise.

Before you spend anything, take our free 100-question EPPP practice exam. It is scored, and there is no signup. Your domain scores tell you whether you need a full course or a plan aimed at two or three weak spots.
