Best EPPP Study Materials (2026): What You Actually Need
Short answer: the best EPPP study materials are four things. The free ASPPB Candidate Handbook, so you know what is tested and how much each domain counts. A large set of application-style practice questions. A few full-length practice exams. And one content review source for the topics you have forgotten. Everything else is optional.
It is easy to buy in the wrong order: you buy a big box of content first, then find out which domains they are weak in three months later. Flip it. Find your gaps for free, then spend money only on what closes them.

Start With the Free Handbook
ASPPB publishes the EPPP Candidate Handbook for free. It tells you how the exam works and what share of it each domain covers. That share is your study budget. Assessment and Diagnosis and Ethics are each 16% of the exam. Research Methods and Statistics is 7%. A weak spot in a 16% domain costs you more than the same weak spot in a 7% one.
We break the eight weights down, with what each domain covers, in EPPP domain weights.
Then Find Your Gaps, Free
Before you buy anything, take the free 100-question EPPP practice exam. It covers all eight domains, scores you as you go, and explains every answer. No account needed.
Look at your score by domain, not just the total. Then multiply the share you got wrong in each domain by that domain's weight. The biggest numbers are where your study hours go first.
Want more reps on one domain? The 50 free EPPP practice questions come with full rationales, and practice questions by domain goes deeper per area.
Free EPPP Study Materials That Are Worth Your Time
- The ASPPB Candidate Handbook. Free, official, and the only source for the real rules.
- A free practice test that explains answers. A score with no explanations tells you where you are, not why.
- Application-style questions. The EPPP mostly asks what you would do with a client, a dataset, or an ethics problem. Recall flashcards help with terms, but they don't build that skill on their own. More on this in how EPPP questions are written.
- A study plan. Our free EPPP study plan lays out week by week what to do with your results.
Do You Need Paid EPPP Study Materials?
It depends on what your free practice test shows.
- Weak in one or two domains: targeted free material plus a question bank for those domains may be enough.
- Weak across several domains, or out of school for years: a full program usually saves time, because it puts content review, questions, and full-length exams in one place and tracks your gaps for you.
Programs differ a lot in price, question style, and whether they offer a free trial. We compare them side by side in EPPP prep programs compared for 2026, and list every program's real price in the cheapest EPPP prep.
For the record, thePsychology.ai is $60 a month or $349 a year after a 7-day free trial with no credit card. It includes 16 full practice exams, 80+ short lessons, quizzes that find your weak spots, 24/7 AI help, and an iPhone app. Price checked on our pricing page on September 27, 2026.
Use the Official Sample Exam Last
ASPPB sells the only official EPPP practice test: $30 per attempt online (SEPPPO) or $82.50 at a Pearson Professional Center (SEPPP). You can buy it only after your licensing board authorizes you for the EPPP, through your Certemy exam workflow.
ASPPB itself says the sample exam is built from old, retired, or unused items and is not recommended for finding the areas where you need more study. Use it near exam day to get used to the format and the test-center feel. Use free practice tests and a question bank to decide what to study.
Watch the Date on Anything You Buy
ASPPB is moving to a new integrated EPPP. Before you buy a used book or an older course, check which exam it was written for. Our EPPP vs EPPP-2 guide has the timeline.
FAQ
Is there a free EPPP study materials PDF?
Yes, the official one: ASPPB's EPPP Candidate Handbook is a free PDF with the exam rules, format, and domain weights. For practice, our free practice exam runs in the browser instead of a PDF, so it can score you and explain each answer.
What is the single most useful EPPP study material?
Practice questions written like the real exam, with explanations. They show you what you don't know and teach it at the same time.
How many practice exams should I take?
There is no official number. Take one early to find your gaps, and a few more later to build stamina for a long exam.
