New EPPP Cost: The $650 Fee for the 2027 Integrated Exam, Explained
The integrated EPPP will cost $650 per attempt, effective April 1, 2028, per ASPPB's Board of Directors. The Spring 2027 beta test costs $100. Starting April 1, 2030, the board will consider fee increases every two years, informed by the Consumer Price Index. Whether the Pearson VUE site fee stays separate has not been announced.

Two context numbers from today's exam, which I broke down line by line in EPPP cost and fees: the current Part 1 exam fee is $600, and Pearson VUE charges a separate $91.88 site fee per sitting, making one attempt $691.88 before state fees.
Is $650 a price increase?
It depends entirely on what you compare it to.
Compared to today's single exam: yes, modestly. $650 versus the current $600 exam fee is a $50 increase, about 8%.
Compared to the two-exam future ASPPB originally planned: no, it is a large cut. The plan before the October 2024 pause was Part 1 (Knowledge) at $600 plus Part 2 (Skills) at $450. Compared to the true cost of an attempt: unknown until ASPPB clarifies the Pearson fee. Today the advertised $600 is not what you pay; you pay $691.88 plus state fees. If the $650 fee has the Pearson site fee on top, a 2028 attempt lands somewhere around $740 at today's Pearson rate. If it is bundled, $650 is nearly flat with today's real price. ASPPB has not said. Confirm at registration before you budget.
The $100 beta test
In March and April 2027, ASPPB is running a beta test of the integrated exam, with a public call for volunteers going out in Fall 2026. It costs $100, and scores come back in late June 2027. The beta is how ASPPB builds the data for standard setting, the process that establishes the passing cut for the real exam.
What ASPPB has not announced is what a beta result gets you beyond the experience, including whether any credit toward licensure attaches to it. Do not build a licensure plan around the beta without confirming its status with your board. As a $100 preview of a brand-new exam format, though, it is the cheapest look anyone will get before Fall 2027.
CPI increases from 2030: the fee will not stay $650
Easy to skim past, expensive to ignore: starting April 1, 2030, ASPPB's board will consider fee increases every two years, informed by the Consumer Price Index. That is a structural change. The current $600 fee has held still for years at a time; the new fee comes with a built-in schedule for revisiting the price. The realistic long-term expectation is a fee that creeps with inflation every couple of years rather than one that stays frozen.
If you are years out from testing, the cheapest version of the integrated EPPP will probably be the early version.
What the exam fee does not include
The exam fee has never been the whole bill, and that does not change in 2028:
- State or provincial application fees, roughly $200 to $500 depending on jurisdiction.
- The Pearson VUE site fee, $91.88 per sitting today, unless ASPPB bundles it (unconfirmed).

- Retakes. Full fee again, every time. There is no retaker discount today, and no discount has been announced for the integrated exam. The math on failed attempts is brutal, which is why the cheapest thing you can buy is passing once.
